QLD must adopt agreed transition on engineered stone ban

At the recent national Work, Health and Safety Ministers’ meeting, Ministers agreed that state governments may adopt transitional provisions for legacy building contracts that specify use of engineered stone and were signed before the ban was announced.

New home commencements in 2023 were the lowest since 2012

“There were only 163,836 new homes that commenced construction in 2023, the lowest volume of starts in over a decade, and far from the 240,000 required each year to meet the Australian government’s target of 1.2 million new homes over the next five years,” stated HIA Chief Economist, Tim Reardon.

Apartment construction in NSW collapses under tax burden

“Since the introduction of additional taxes in 2017, the number of units commencing construction in NSW has fallen by 50 per cent,” stated HIA Chief Economist, Tim Reardon.
