North Queensland

Keeping you up-to-date with the latest news, insights and advice across your region.

It has been a busy November and December across the north. November started with welcoming Mark Pattemore into the role of Area Manager Cairns FNQ. Mark has been working with HIA in our Cairns office for the past 12 months as part of our Apprentice Mentoring area, and I know Mark is keen to catch up with our members across the FNQ region.

The North Queensland Regional Executive Committee held its final meeting for the year in mid-November with the QBCC Commissioner, Angelo Lambrinos, a special guest of the committee. It was great to hear his thoughts and views for working with the industry, and the direction of the QBCC following his appointment earlier in the year.

The first 2 weeks of December saw a quick trip to Cairns to meet with our Regional President and major members in discussions around the challenges ahead, then a productive trip to Canberra engaging with fellow HIA Regional Executive Directors and senior leadership from across the country sharing insights, knowledge, and policy items that support our members, our industry and our community.

It’s a great reminder of HIA’s unique strength, our national reach with a regional focus.

Our 2025 HIA North Queensland Housing Awards program has been run and won. We Congratulate Ash Moseley Homes who took home the prestigious, 2025 North Queensland Home of the Year for the stunning project Pine Ridge Retreat residence.

In demonstrating her exceptional work ethic, initiative, and dedication to her trade, Cairns’ apprentice Rhianna McDonald was named HIA North Queensland Apprentice of the Year. Also, John Munro Builder took home the HIA Townsville- Central Queensland Home of the Year. You can see a full list of the North Qld winners on the HIA website.

2025 has been a big year full of planning, events and advocacy and in 2026 we will continue to advocate around the ongoing challenges affecting housing supply & demand and skill shortages.

We have a comprehensive program of events and advocacy planned to support our members across North Queensland. Our HIA Economics team will commence the year’s activities with our HIA Industry Outlook sessions in March and April, providing members with valuable insights to assist with forecasting and planning.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank our partners for their ongoing support of our events, training, and information sessions. Their contribution enables us to continue delivering high quality services to our members.
