It has been a very long time since we last had so much focus on residential builders, with the housing crisis front and centre in the media and with our politicians.
Almost everyone has someone they know who has been impacted by the lack of housing of all types. As a community, this is our greatest challenge. The residential construction industry is up for the task, but we just need the right settings in place.
We need land ready to build on, an available skilled workforce and policy and planning rules that are geared to facilitate the rapid roll-out of new homes. But for now, let's concentrate on the holiday season ahead.
As we come to the end of 2025, I want to extend my thanks to all of our members, partners and industry colleagues for making this such a strong and memorable year for HIA South Australia. From our major events and awards programs, to the everyday wins that happen across our industry, your commitment and collaboration continue to shape a vibrant and resilient residential building community.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2026.

The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has welcomed the Queensland Productivity Commission’s (QPC) Final Report as a vital blueprint for improving housing supply and affordability. However, HIA warns that the State Government’s refusal to tackle local government planning barriers threatens to derail the entire reform agenda.
“Lower interest rates have seen the volume of new homes commencing construction increase, but they still remain well below the government’s target,” stated HIA Senior Economist, Maurice Tapang.
