Updates to AS 3500: 2025 Plumbing and Drainage Standards series

Standards Australia has published an updated version of the AS 3500 series with updates and clarifications for sanitary plumbing and drainage, water services, and more.

Standards Australia has released updated editions of the AS 3500 Plumbing and Drainage Standards. There are important clarifications and new requirements across water services, sanitary plumbing, stormwater and heated water systems.

While these updated standards are not yet referenced in the NCC, they are expected to influence compliance pathways soon as jurisdictions move toward adoption.

We break down what’s changed in AS/NZS 3500.1, 3500.2, 3500.3 and 3500.4, with clear clause-by-clause references that highlight where installers, designers and builders may need to adjust practices.

With transition periods and performance-based pathways varying by state, understanding these updates early is critical. Stay ahead of regulatory change, reduce risk on site, and prepare for adoption before these standards become mandatory under the NCC.
