Transition to lead-free plumbing products
NCC 2022 introduced strict limits on allowable lead content in plumbing products, with a national deadline of 1 May 2028. In Victoria, these requirements will apply earlier, from 1 May 2026. The changes primarily affect products that come into contact with drinking water.
From 1 May 2026, products that don’t meet the new lead limits will no longer receive certification for use in drinking water systems. This has implications for how materials are selected, ordered and stored across current and future projects.
