As clean-up and reconstruction work begins in bushfire-affected areas there is a need to be fully aware of the health and safety hazards that may be present, but which would not normally exist on a construction site.
The NSW government is encouraging people to use their free clean-up service, which is available to all insured and uninsured residences and businesses affected by the bushfires. This program focuses on safety hazards and issues that could impede people rebuilding their homes.
In the event that people decide to clean-up themselves there are some considerations that should be taken into account.
Builders, home owners and businesses should be aware that deciding to remove waste from an affected site can affect your registration and ability to use the government’s free clean-up service.
Take a few minutes to read the important safety information that has been made available by WorkSafe NSW.
Register for the bushfire clean-up at the NSW government's bushfire clean-up page or contact Service NSW on 13 77 88.
