You can find out if the intended building is in a designated bushfire-prone area by looking up the address on a map provided by the Department of Fire & Emergency Services (DFES). A link to the state-wide DFES map is provided in this resource.
This resource also outlines the need to undertake a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessment before you can commence development in an area that has been designated as bushfire-prone. Any assessment conducted more than 12 months ago should be conducted again to ensure it is as up-to-date as possible.
Don’t take unnecessary risks. If you have any doubts about the level of risk your new building may be exposed to, check out the DFES map and carry out a BAL assessment if required.
