This resource outlines some of the main ways HIA members can assist residents to deal with damage to homes and businesses caused by a recent bushfire event.
Members are advised not to travel to an affected area until official notice has been given that the area is safe to return to. Once access is given, it’s important to remember that buildings in a bushfire-affected area will have suffered various states of structural damage and should always be entered into with extreme caution.
Advice is given in this resource as to what safety and health issues should be considered when assessing the structural integrity of a building. Some structures will need to be demolished and others will need to be reconstructed. Rules apply as to who can undertake the building work and what contracts, insurances and licenses are needed.
Links are provided in this resource to state fire authorities who can provide further information on reconstruction procedures for areas affected by bushfire.
