Installation of rangehoods and splashbacks near cooktops

This resource provides information on the clearances needed between a gas cooking appliance and combustible surfaces as outlined by Australian Standard AS/NZS 5601.1 Gas installations (General installations). The general intent of the Standard is to ensure that combustible surfaces installed near gas appliances should not exceed 65 degrees above ambient temperature. Where a combustible surface can not achieve the required clearance, it must be protected.

Provided is a table that demonstrates acceptable methods of protection of combustible surfaces, including the minimum thickness allowable and what backing material or substrate should be used.
