Our vision remains the same, to be an association that speaks with a united voice on industry issues and creating real change, provides quality services at the lowest possible cost and works with the sector to maintain high standards through self-regulated commercial conduct.

A powerful member association

Our large membership base gives us political strength and the ability to develop and advocate policy founded on the importance of the residential building industry and benefiting all Australians.

The HIA logo is displayed as a sign of professionalism on building sites all around the country. Our members are responsible for over 80 per cent of new homes and renovations in Australia.

Helping protect the integrity of the industry

All HIA members agree to be bound by the HIA National Code of Ethics developed to promote the highest standards of work and conduct by members within the community.

Under the National Code of Ethics, HIA members shall conduct their business to provide products and services with competence, fairness, value, honesty and integrity.

Any consumer or HIA member who believes they have a complaint against an HIA member in connection with their conduct can apply in writing to HIA asking that the matter be dealt with under the National Code of Ethics.

Although HIA has no power to make a legal determination, if a member is found by HIA to have acted contrary to the Code, HIA may caution, reprimand, suspend or expel the member.

📢 Member spotlight: St Joseph Affordable Homes

🏡 St Joseph Affordable Homes, winner of the 2024 HIA Australian Professional Medium Builder/Renovator award, has been a beacon of hope in the housing crisis.

This social enterprise, launched in 2020 with the Catholic Church in Hobart, creates sustainable employment for young Tasmanians and tackles affordable housing. They’ve built over 300 homes and employed 85 staff, including 40 apprentices. 🌟 Their commitment to training, community partnerships, and sustainability sets them apart, with new projects like a joinery workshop and modular construction, they continue to innovate and expand.

In the final week of Safe Work Month, our theme will focus on musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs). 💪🦴

With MSIs accounting for half of all serious workers' comp claims in 2022-23, it's crucial to understand how to prevent them. MSIs can result from both gradual wear and tear or sudden damage to muscles, bones, and joints.

As a rule of thumb, always aim to:
- Identify and eliminate MSI risks early
- Encourage safe lifting and posture
- Use the right equipment for the job
