Course overview
The CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways provides an introduction to the primary trades in the construction industry, excluding plumbing. It is designed for learners who want to explore trade pathways such as carpentry and general construction. The qualification builds foundational construction skills and can provide credit toward a construction industry Australian Apprenticeship or further Certificate III trade training.
Please note: this course is currently only available to learners in the Northern Territory and Tasmania. It is delivered in face-to-face classes onsite at a Trade Training Centre. Learners are required to complete self-paced learning every week out of the face to face classes.
On successful completion of this course, you will graduate with a Certificate for the nationally recognised qualification:
- CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways
Essential information
HIA will conduct a pre-enrolment review with you to make sure that this program is suitable for your career goals, current skills and experience. HIA will also ensure each participant has the following:
- a competent level of English; reading, writing, interpersonal and communication skills. Students are required to complete the language, literacy and numeracy assessment online, this ensures students have the required level of digital literacy skills for the enrolled training product. Digital literacy is not required for Northern Territory students, all course resources will be provided in a hard copy format.
- the ability to research, access and interpret complex documents
- numeracy skills
All participants will be required to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy assessment before enrolment.
Course duration in general is approximately 40 weeks – however delivery frequency may vary from state to state. Please see table below for actual course duration per state.

Note: HIA Learning may hold classes for tailored student cohort(s) and their course duration may vary. Refer to your individual training plan and course schedule upon course enrolment.
Learners may need personal protective equipment such as safety boots, eye protection, hearing protection and suitable work clothing. Depending on the delivery model, learners may also use hand tools, power tools, construction materials, measuring equipment, plans and specifications, and online learning materials supplied or nominated by the training provider HIA Learning.

The elective units listed below represent the only approved elective unit options offered by HIA. This is a reduced list which has been taken from the specified electives list contained within the packaging rules for this qualification.
