Course overview

This comprehensive full day course is for business owners, employers and employees who may be required to have formal First Aid and CPR qualifications. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills to assess and manage emergency situations, provide first aid, provide CPR, and use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

This program is also open to those who just want to learn First Aid and CPR in general.  No previous experience or certification is required to complete this course.

This nationally recognised training is supported by HIA and is delivered by an associate Registered Training Organisation (details of our associate RTO appear below).

What will I learn?

You will learn about:

  • “DRSABCD” priority action plan
  • recording practices
  • managing emergency situations and multiple casualties
  • the unconscious casualty
  • resuscitation for adults (cardio pulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation)
  • communicable diseases and hygiene precautions
  • head, neck and spinal injuries
  • shock, wound care, external bleeding control
  • recognition and care of internal bleeding, burns, fractures, facial injuries and chest injuries
  • medical conditions including recognition and treatment of asthma, convulsions, diabetes and epilepsy, stroke and heart conditions, treatments for poisons, bites and stings, overexposure to heat and cold

You will need to commit 5 to 8 hours (equivalent to 1 day) of face-to-face learning time for this short course depending on which state you are undertaking this training in. Outside of this allocation of time, you will need to complete considerable self-directed learning, research and an assessment.
