SA President's report

{{ tag.label }} {{ tag.label }} $vuetify.icons.faTimes
Incoming HIA SA President Brad Jansen reflects on where we are as an industry and outlines his thoughts on where we are headed for his term in office and beyond.

Peter McIndoe

HIA South Australia President

Recently, I accepted the role of HIA SA President after serving as Vice President over the previous two years and as an active business owner of the property development and construction company Qattro for almost two decades. I am delighted to be working alongside Peter McIndoe as Vice President in support of my tenure.

I want to thank our outgoing President, Charlie Condo, for his magnificent contribution over a tumultuous time for our industry and our membership as we navigated the rocky, unchartered waters of the pandemic together. I was privileged to witness Charlie and Stephen Knight work tirelessly to help steer government policy, carry out lobbying exercises and lead the SA region of the HIA in selfless ways that most of us never get to truly appreciate and understand.

I assume this role when our sector is dealing with the backwash of the pandemic. The broader community can’t possibly understand the difficulties our members have endured, and continue to, by way of supply chain disruption, extreme weather events, labour shortages and financial stresses.

I’m proud of the resilience demonstrated by you, our sector and our membership. We have all withstood the storm and can now look to better times ahead.

South Australia’s wonderful macroeconomic fundamentals will underpin new housing construction for the coming decade. I am working tirelessly with your Regional Executive to put a strong case forward to authorities that ensure our sector is supported as we recover.

In the interim, I’d like to challenge every one of us to shake off the pandemic blues, stand firm, and approach the future with renewed energy and vigour.

Let us together:

  • Be proud that we deliver services and products that form the cornerstones of our communities and society - the homes where families live, love, learn and grow.
  • Promote this fantastic industry to the younger generation as an aspirational career choice where they can carve out a rewarding and fruitful career.
  • Grow our labour capacity through greater female participation. We welcome and need your contribution in this industry, across all vocations, from ‘on the tools’ to the company CEO.
  • Work to restore our relationship and credibility with the broader community we serve. We have been on the front line to absorb the pressures and clean up the unintended consequences of pandemic-led policy. Let’s return to doing what we do best, delivering high-quality housing on time.

We’ve got a big job to do together. I assure you that Stephen Knight, the Regional Executive Committee and I will keep up efforts to help steer the industry toward better and brighter days.
