The market shows continued signs of contracting as land supply is limited, trade and material supply chains regain slowly, and buyer demand sits patiently for interest rate stability. However, the uncertainty doesn’t stop here. Impending changes relating to the National Construction Code 2022, 7-Star energy efficiency rating, a new Territory Plan for the ACT, and state and council planning changes for NSW are all culminating in creating a 'brave new world' come 2024.
However, is this the step change the industry has been putting off? Will these new designing and building ingredients really improve the quality, liveability and affordability? Or is ideology overshadowing practicality and common sense at the height of a cost-of-living crisis? The industry has been referred to as a laggard compared to others. However, is this the right time to enforce such change at a time when the government instructs us to build 1.2m dwellings in the next five years?
We continue to advocate for the benefit of the industry and liaise with the government and others to clarify technical details, training, timelines and support. This is a nationwide topic with nuances in all states and territories, with a common aim to reach climate-based targets. Be assured that we are investing significant time representing all aspects of the industry to ensure everyone is heard, well-informed and supported during a substantial transition period. In the years ahead, we may look back at this time and acknowledge that this forced step change created an industry even better than the one we have at present.
For now, hang in there and don't hesitate to contact us for assistance.
