2024 HIA-CSR Australian Home of the Year

This home was designed and built with an overarching philosophy of balancing aesthetic and environmental response. Suspended on the water's edge of an unbelievably steep slope, the home moulds to the landscape. Cleverly designed, the home preserves and celebrates the site's breathtaking views. Concrete, Corten cladding, COLORBOND and Alucobond combine in a low-maintenance exterior ideal to withstand the coastal setting. Inside, burnished concrete floors, solid timber and high-end finishes complete this sophisticated build.

This project overcame extreme difficulty: over 1000 tonnes of concrete needed to be poured on a very steep site with limited access. Judges were stunned at the meticulous detail and execution of this project, from large-scale technical and logistical to the very smallest details. Care, attention and an uncompromising quality are evident at every turn.

The timber grain alignment on the kitchen cabinetry, the detailing on the solid timber feature panels, and the multiple uses of in-situ concrete are just a few examples. Hydronic in-slab heating, premium appliances, extensive integrated technology and a 600-bottle wine cellar are the icing on the cake for this home that perfectly combines luxury living with a laid-back coastal lifestyle.
