2022 HIA Apprentice Host Trainer

Winner: Matthew Earl - Rossmark, New South Wales

Matthew Earl of Rossmark in NSW has been named the inaugural HIA Australian Apprentice Host Trainer, recognising his dedication to training the tradespeople and builders of the future.

Matthew has been hosting HIA apprentices for several years. Under his guidance, apprentices gain experience across all aspects of the business and are kept up to date with industry changes, equipment requirements, safety and regulation guidelines.

The announcement was made on 23 April as part of the presentation of the 2022 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards on the Gold Coast.

Matthew recognises the benefits of training apprentices who in time become experienced leading hands and builders. With Rossmark, apprentices gain in-depth knowledge of all aspects of cottage work; from excavation, wall framing and pitching a roof to internal fitout.

Rossmark have a focus on safety and ensure all apprentices have a thorough understanding of the safety requirements onsite. Once a month apprentices visit each site with the safety officer to ensure they are compliant, safe and productive.

Apprentices work with an experienced team, with combined industry experience exceeding 100 years. Weekly toolbox talks and conversations with peers ensure apprentices feel confident to ask questions and feel supported in their learning.
