2022 HIA Australian Kitchen Design

Winner: Concepts By Gavin Hepper, New South Wales
Concepts By Gavin Hepper were named the winner of the 2022 HIA Australian Kitchen Design for a functional family kitchen.
The innovative design provides a low-maintenance family kitchen high on functionality and storage. Pushing the boundaries of design practicality is the island bench, which appears as one complete solid piece. However, concealed in the thermoformed island is a storage unit on a hydraulic lift. It’s so seamlessly hidden, the benchtop remains stain-resistant, durable and hygienic.
The ocean tones used throughout are subtle but striking, providing a cohesive colour palette. The organic curves and repetition of lines in the island bench fluting and mosaic finger tiles represent the ocean's ripples and movement.
While the kitchen is inspired by the ocean views and iconic lighthouse, the judges noted the result demonstrates that the concept to execution is near perfection.
The HIA Australian Kitchen Design award partnered by Clipsal by Schneider Electric recognises excellence in design of a renovated or new kitchen with the winner announced during the 2022 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards presentation on 23 April.
The HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards are the ultimate platform to showcase the talents of the nation’s top builders and designers. Winners are selected from state-based finalists, with awards in 23 separate categories. Only two winning kitchens are recognised each year at the Australian level.
