Nestled in limestone cliffs, this site offered picturesque rewards for those willing to tackle its significant challenges.
The resulting home won Western Australia’s Capozzi Building the title of the HIA Australian Spec Home, announced at the gala presentation of the 2022 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards on 23 April on the Gold Coast.
Clad with Pacific Teak, the residence features angular walls, punctuating direct viewpoints from every room. A glass walkway links the entry and main bedroom. Curved elements are repeated throughout the home in the cabinetry, shower screens, windows and skylight openings. The interior palette is a serene aesthetic that does not detract from the views.
Judges agreed that what was achieved on the site with such a significant drop was outstanding. They also remarked on the innovative suspended garage access. A commendation was given on the meticulous attention to detail.
The HIA Australian Spec Home category, partnered by Stratco, is presented to an individual house, not built to a client's brief nor on display to the public, which is either sold off-plan or built for sale on completion or during construction.
The prestigious HIA awards program is the ultimate platform to showcase those who excel in building exceptional homes, kitchens and bathrooms, and continues to offer members the opportunity to receive public recognition for their hard work.
Western Australian HIA members were the recipients of four national awards this year, including Outdoor Project, Spec Home, Display Home, and Specialised Housing.
