Home of the Year

HIA-CSR Western Australian Housing Awards

Winner: Tallwood Custom Built Homes

Perched on an expansive 2000sqm elevated block, this timeless family holiday home offers the ultimate in privacy and stunning panoramic views of the coastline and natural parklands.

The home exudes timeless elegance through the use of raw, natural textures and materials, including rammed limestone walls, timber-look aluminum windows, travertine floor tiles, and warm cabinetry tones. A standout feature is the repurposed free form capped limestone obtained during earthworks, which is integrated throughout the interiors and exterior, adding warmth and character to the home while allowing the views to take center stage.

The main roof extends outwards, creating a dramatic cantilever that frames the ocean vista and floods the home with natural light. Solar passive design principles are incorporated, with features such as hydraulic underfloor heating, solar panels with battery storage, a backup generator, stabilised rammed limestone, lux wall insulated cladding, and double glazing ensuring energy efficiency and comfort.

The pavilion-style design separates the garage and store from the main residence, connected by a walkway that offers a framed view of the exquisite coastline upon entry. Bedrooms and living spaces are strategically located along the northern perimeter, boasting high raking ceilings and extensive glazing that forge an intimate connection with the surrounding landscape.

The alfresco area features an impressive outdoor fireplace and open wood store, positioned to maximise year-round use and enjoyment. To experience this home is to unwind and immerse oneself in the natural beauty that surrounds it from every corner.
