2023 HIA Australian Spec Home

HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards

Winner: Averna Homes

A striking home emanating luxury from every angle was announced the 2023 HIA Australian Spec Home winner by Western Australia’s Averna Homes.

With its timeless, light industrial appeal, this three-storey spec home incorporates luxe natural finishes sourced from across the globe to imbue a truly bespoke ambience. Behind its glazed facade, the Averna team packed a powerful punch to a tight site, incorporating a six-car garage, lift, two courtyards, a pool and generously sized public and private rooms.
The curved floating headboard in the master suite is a striking feature, cleverly zoning the room to conceal the walk-through robe behind. This concept is mimicked in the ensuite’s double vanity, centrally set to delineate the occupants’ use of the space.

These aspects, along with streamlined indoor-outdoor flow to connect the entertaining areas, are just a few examples of how the home showcases a brilliant use of open-plan design. The judges were impressed by the high-end workmanship on the impeccably detailed architectural features, such as the recessed ceilings, bulkheads and joinery throughout the home.

The HIA Australian Spec Home category, partnered by Stratco, is presented to an individual house, not built to a client's brief nor on display to the public, which is either sold off-plan or built for sale on completion or during construction.

Award winners were announced at the 2023 HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards on Hamilton Island on 20 May.

The annual HIA Awards program is the ultimate platform to showcase those who excel in building exceptional homes, kitchens and bathrooms, and continues to offer members the opportunity to receive public recognition for their hard work.
