Winner: Mactech Constructions
This stunning duplex townhouse development presents as a single home - an architectural gem that evokes the classic Queenslander style.
The development by Mactech Constructions was announced as the winner of the HIA Australian Townhouse / Villa of the Year during the 2023 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards presentation on 20 May.
Featuring white weatherboard cladding, a high-pitched roof, exposed trusses and rafter tails, the design maximises every inch of a narrow block.
Flow and function of the internal space was Mactech Construction’s highest priority, and this was skilfully achieved by manipulating the visual perception of space and light internally. Soaring raked ceilings and the clever use of skylights, voids, feature lighting and sculptural curved forms together add to the open feel.
Aesthetically, this stunning home reflects the site’s beachside location with a pale, tactile, coastal-inspired palette, while an abundance of lush, draping foliage further enhances a connection to nature, outside and within.
Including four bedrooms and a four-car basement garage, gym, cellar and cinema on a tight site is a testament to the skill of the builder, with guests also treated to a glimpse of a glass pool overhead upon entry.
The HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards are the ultimate platform to showcase the talents of the nation’s top builders and designers. Winners are selected from state-based finalists, with awards in 23 separate categories including Professional Builders, display home, apprentice, bathrooms and kitchens.
The HIA Australian Townhouse/Villa of the Year category partnered by NatHERS, is for an individual residential dwelling within a townhouse/villa development.
