Renovation / Addition Project $500,000 - $1 million

The project brief was to transform a modest workers cottage in Ainslie into home that respects its heritage and provides modern amenity for a growing family. The project is located in a heritage precinct and includes the restoration of an original 1930s cottage and the addition of a modern pavilion to the rear. The modern addition to the rear of the property has been detailed to achieve a minimalist aesthetic to compliment and contrast the textures and period details that have been lovingly restored in the cottage bringing it back to its former glory. The roof tiles were carefully removed and reinstated to allow for sarking, restoration of the timber structure, new valley irons and tile bedding to ensure weather tightness. Care has been taken to interpret and reinstate original detail of the cottage to maintain the character of the building in its heritage context. Judges noted the extremely well executed renovation while maintaining the original character of the home.
