Custom Built Home $1.1 million to $1.5 million

HIA-CSR ACT/Southern NSW Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards

Winner: Lawbuilders and Melinda Boag Design

Situated in Broulee, the homeowners with Lawbuilders and Melinda Boag Design embarked on a project to demolish and rebuild their home, to create a new, classic coastal sanctuary. Sustainable materials and a layout that accommodates multiple generations was a priority, ensuring both beauty and functionality for their new space. To minimise environmental impact, existing vegetation was preserved and recycled Australian hardwood and Blackbutt was used, sourced from sustainable suppliers for various interior and exterior features. Solar panels on the north-facing roof enhance energy efficiency, while thermally broken double-glazed windows offer optimal insulation. The home features burnished and polished concrete floors with hydronic heating, blending practicality with aesthetic appeal. Both inside and outside, feature rockwork sourced from Byron Bay was utilised for continuity and low-maintenance considerations. The final outcome is a visually stunning, functional residence that harmoniously integrates materials, emphasising the rugged beauty of the south coast while catering to the needs of a multi-generational family.
