This award recognises excellence in the construction and design of a single home or a housing development incorporating cost effective design features to deliver a high quality housing product at an affordable market price including for social or affordable rental housing.

Judging criteria

Projects will be judged according to:

Criteria Points
Affordability 30
Quality of workmanship 30
Design effectiveness and visual appeal 30
Innovation 10

Notes:

  1. Entries may include a single dwelling, granny flat or secondary dwelling, social housing or community housing.
  2. Evidence must be provided that the home offers an affordable housing option in the region the home is built and includes features and inclusions which assist to reduce on-going operating costs.
  3. Where Government Affordable Housing schemes exist in the relevant states, entrants must provide evidence that the project meets the eligibility criteria for that scheme.
  4. To be eligible, social or community housing developments should include at least one third of homes occupied by households that either meet the state’s definition of affordable housing and/or are allocated to households on the social housing wait list.
