Project price definition

Project price definition

HIA defines the project price as the entire cost of the project that will be viewed by the judges. The project price rules are specific to the category entered, for example, Outdoor Project entries must be the cost of the works related to the outdoor area only.  Townhouse of the Year and Apartment of the Year entries must be the price of the individual dwelling being entered, not the entire development.

Display Home entries need to refer to the project price definition specific to Display Homes.

Housing categories (excluding display homes)

  • Your project price must reflect the entire cost of the project that will be viewed by the judges. This is inclusive of your contract price plus variations plus all works supplied or carried out by owner/others.
  • Your project price must include GST, site works, all trades, all extras, final prime costs and provisional sum adjustments.
  • Site works are defined as preparation of the site ready for building work to commence. It must include things like temporary site fencing, site management costs, along with excavation and retaining walls if they are integral to the build.
  • The project price does not include land price, landscaping, and the cost of removable appliances.
  • For renovation projects, the cost of demolition is not included.
  • For projects built for a related person (family, friends etc) the project price must include a builder’s margin as would be the price offered to a retail customer.

Kitchen and Bathroom categories

  • The project price of kitchen and bathroom entries must reflect the entire cost of the complete project that will be viewed by the judges. This includes all prime cost items such as cabinets, splashbacks, fixtures and fittings, benchtops, trades, etc.
  • Your project price is inclusive of your contract price (for the space entered, not the entire house) plus variations, plus all works supplied or carried out by owner/others and must include GST.
  • For renovated bathrooms and kitchens, the cost of demolition must be included in your project price.
  • The cost of removable appliances is not included.
  • For projects built for a related person (e.g. family, friends etc) the project price must include a builder’s margin as would be the price offered to a retail customer.
  • Your project price determines which price category your project fits into (where applicable) in your selected award category.
