Custom Built Home

2021 HIA-CSR Tasmanian Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards

Winner: In2Construction Services

Nestled in the rural surrounds of Bruny Island Tasmania, Coopworth is a contemporary interpretation of a farmhouse. Capturing wide-ranging views from grazing sheep to the Channel and the mountain ranges beyond.

The thoughtfully designed internal layout can be opened up to host large gatherings, though primarily designed for two occupants. Frameless windows are pushed to the edge of the floor plate, to embrace the unpredictable weather conditions and internally creating space to accommodate more guests.

This interpretation of the Australian veranda sleep out is stunning in its simplicity. The dominant feature in the living room is the exposed wool lining under the Perspex corrugated lining. Ply walls and ceilings throughout the home add warmth to the interior, and polished concrete floors add to the farmhouse feel. The home is rated 7.7-stars for energy efficiency. This simple but truly radical build is one of Tasmania's most defining houses.
