Keynote speaker

Jo Farrell

General Manager at Kane Constructions, and Founder of Build Like A Girl

After finishing high school in 1996, Jo set out to become a builder—only to discover that the industry had no time for women when searching for her apprenticeship. Despite constant rejection, Jo persevered and eventually wore down a builder who offered her an unpaid 3-month trial, she had finally been given an opportunity, and so she ran with it.  Jo is now a qualified carpenter by trade, a licenced builder, a certified building designer, and the General Manager of a multimillion-dollar commercial construction company. In September 2020, she founded Build Like A Girl, an organisation focused on forming pathways for women in construction to ensure they are welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed. Jo’s advocacy and philanthropy efforts have led to many awards, including ACT Australian of the Year in 2024, and her mission remains clear: to implement real change in the building and construction industry.

In conversation with

Sam Bremner

Former NRLW Captain, and General Manager of Football at St George Dragons

Sam Bremner is one of the most decorated rugby league players of all time. While playing for the Helensburgh Tiger Lillies, Sam made her State of Origin debut in 2012. After outstanding performances over the years that followed, she was elected captain of the inaugural NRLW Premiership Season in 2018. Sam officially retired at the end of 2022, content with her career achievements, and focused on raising her three children—but she wasn’t quite finished. In 2024, she came out of retirement to play for the Sydney Roosters, leading the Roosters to their second NRLW Premiership. With 15 years in the game, Sam has become a powerful voice for women in sport, leading the charge for the NRL’s Maternity Return to Rugby League policy, and being appointed the first-ever female General Manager of Football at the St George Dragons. Sam Bremner is a trailblazer in every sense of the word.
