Wednesday 02 April 2025

On Wednesday, 9 April 2025, at the elegant EOS by SkyCity Ballroom, we’ll officially launch the 2025 HIA Building Women Awards Program, a highlight of the building and construction industry calendar. This prestigious event shines a spotlight on the achievements of women in the industry while creating a space for growth, collaboration, and meaningful connections.

The morning will feature an unmissable Q&A session with Abbey Holmes, a trailblazer in sports, media, and adventure. From becoming the first female AFLW player to kick 100 goals in a season to competing on Australian Survivor and excelling as a media commentator, Abbey’s story is one of resilience, determination, and breaking barriers. She’ll share her powerful insights and lessons to inspire you to elevate your own journey.

Guiding this engaging conversation is Jess Adamson, an acclaimed journalist and presenter whose warmth and expertise promise a dynamic and insightful session filled with actionable takeaways.

This is your chance to celebrate remarkable achievements, build lasting connections, and leave feeling empowered and ready to embrace new opportunities.

Speaker

Abbey Holmes

A dynamic personality with a fervor for sports, adventure, and travel.

Hailing from South Australia but having left her footprints all over the nation, she's a true embodiment of dedication and excellence. Her versatility shines through as a Real Estate Agent, a football player, commentator for Channel 7 and Triple M, adventure TV series host, a survivor in the challenging realm of Australian Survivor, and an engaging speaker at events.

Abbey's sporting prowess is undeniable; she's represented Australia, South Australia, and the Northern Territory in Netball. However, it was her transition into competitive football in the NTFL that set the stage for her groundbreaking achievement as the first female Australian Rules Footballer to kick over 100 goals in a women's league season. This not only marked her as a sports icon but also drew the nation's attention to the evolving landscape of women's football. Her contributions extend beyond the field. She's actively participated in charity football matches like the EJ Whitten Legends Game and the Slowdown, raising vital funds for prostate cancer research and children's oncology treatment. Her work in this area solidified her position as a role model and a respected figure nationwide. Abbey's passion for sports broadcasting led her to work with esteemed networks across Australia. Her home base is Channel 7, where she's part of the AFL and AFLW Commentary Team, conducting boundary interviews and hosting. Additionally, she's a prominent voice on Triple M Footy.

In the realm of travel and tourism, Abbey's zeal shines brightly. She's a 'Friend of Tourism Australia' and collaborates with local, state, and national tourism bodies to showcase Australia's wonders through various media and social media campaigns. She also runs her travel marketing platform, 'Backyard Bandits,' promoting the beauty of her homeland. Beyond her professional life, she passionately supports indigenous education and culture, working with AFL Northern Territory from the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre. Abbey's journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her passions and her dedication to making a positive impact.
