As we begin 2024, the residential building industry faces a challenging environment. Inflation has eased, but interest rates remain high and consumer confidence is fragile. State and Federal Governments have set ambitious targets for new home building, but building costs remain high and there is still a shortage of quality tradespeople.
Join us at the HIA Industry Outlook Breakfast, where HIA’s Economist will be discussing the economic and regulatory conditions that builders and suppliers will be facing in the year ahead.
Delivering the keynote address will be Matt Press, Acting Executive Director and Assistant Building Commissioner at NSW Building Commission. Matt will provide guests with an overview of the recently formed Building Commission and the work they are currently undertaking. Attendees can expect insights into the recent enactment on the anywhere, anytime inspection powers for residential homes under construction.
Acting Executive Director and Assistant Building Commissioner, NSW Building Commission
In recent times Matt Press has been responsible for delivering the Construct NSW transformation program as Director of the Office of the Building Commissioner, and subsequently leading compliance and enforcement for SafeWork NSW and Fair Trading. Matt has since returned to lead Building Operations at the NSW Building Commission. He has a wealth of experience, great passion and understanding of the challenges of regulation having been involved in the building industry for the last 10 years, after spending the early years of his career in telecommunication and utilities sectors.
