In August, National Cabinet agreed to an ambitious new target to build 1.2 million new homes over five years. This is an additional 200,000 new homes above the National Housing Accord target agreed by states and territories last year.
To meet the target of building 1.2 million homes in five years, industry will need to build 240,000 each year. While some critics have argued that the target is unachievable, a coordinated effort by all levels of government and across portfolios makes it achievable.
