Upcoming Building Regulatory Reforms – home warranty insurance, building tribunal and more

The Tasmanian government is soon to introduce new consumer protection laws for residential building work.

While HIA is working with government to ensure these changes are sensible and practical, there will be new requirements in place for dispute resolution, contracts and compliance. More specifically these changes are seeking to:

  • re-introduce home warranty insurance
  • address defective work
  • create a Residential Building Dispute stream within the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
  • hold permit authorities accountable in the exercise of their powers in relation to building, plumbing and demolition work.

Join Melissa Adler, HIA’s Executive Director Industrial Relations and Legal Services to find out more about what these significant changes mean for you and your business.
