Reintroduction of homeowners warranty insurance in Tasmania

Home Warranty Insurance is being reintroduced in Tasmania for residential building work. While no date has yet been set for it to take effect it is just around the corner, so now is the time to start preparing to meet this new requirement.

To help you navigate, subject matter expert Michael Luu from HIA Insurance Services, will be on hand to provide an overview and more detailed information on:

  • the scope of work covered and excluded
  • application of the ‘last resort’ scheme
  • insurance caps and claims
  • insurance eligibility requirements for builders.

Michael will also answer any questions you may have on general industry insurances.

Understanding risks and hazards in the workplace

Understanding the difference between risks and hazards is an important part of managing WHS in the workplace. Managers and employees need to know how to identify, control and monitor these in the workplace.

This session will focus on:

  • what is a risk assessment and how to complete one
  • understanding and applying the Hierarchy of controls
  • hazard identification
  • workplace documentation.

NCC Changes round structural steel and corrosion

  • changes from the 2019 NCC regarding corrosion protection for structural steel
  • what are the relevant provisions for the durability of steel beams, posts and columns that must be complied with in 2022 NCC
  • what needs to happen to ensure that these provisions are met
  • why the changes are good for builders and homeowners (and shouldn’t cost any more).
