For the past five years, the Victorian Government has been carrying out a comprehensive review of the state’s building legislative and regulatory system.
The Building System Review has examined issues such as practitioner registration, building approvals, regulatory oversight and consumer protection. A second stage report was released last year and is being considered by the Government. Meanwhile the Review is now in its third stage: preparing advice to Government on the development of a new Building Act.
HIA expects that the apartment and townhouse sectors will be most affected by the initial round of proposed changes. But there will be processes, key lessons and implications that will apply to detached home builders too.
At this virtual trade night, the HIA team will provide an update on the changes industry should begin to prepare for, and also the latest Victorian economic data.
