Rob Watchorn is co-owner of Blythe and Watchorn Builders and acted as Chair of HIA’s youthBuild Tasmania program. HIA youthBuild is an initiative of the HIA in which young people learn about, and gain practical experience in, the building industry in order to become work-ready while completing their secondary school studies. Currently aimed at Year 9 and 10 students, it serves to promote career diversity and provides a pathway into industry. It is designed to primarily lead to VET training and future apprenticeships. It introduces the skill sets developed in apprenticeships alongside real industry experience.
A qualified tradesman turned industry advocate, Rob has helped expand youthBuild into every public secondary school in Tasmania alongside the team at HIA. With a passion for practical learning and a finger on the pulse of Tasmania’s skills needs, he’s committed to creating real pathways from school to apprenticeship. .
