HIA has partnered with the Department of Youth Justice, Employment, Small Business and Training QLD to deliver 30 Pre-Apprenticeship opportunities for aspiring apprentices and trainees.

Entering the building industry -
Pre-Apprentice opportunities

Diversity helps an industry thrive - we welcome you to apply for a paid 12 week program with a host employer and gain valuable experience for a thriving career in the building industry. The program commences 31 July 2023. 

Who should apply?

This employment opportunity supports entry-level participates of diverse backgrounds. We welcome mature-age students, women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, people with disabilities, culturally and linguistically diverse peoples and other disadvantaged groups, to commence a career in the industry.

What will you achieve?

Successful applications will gain a CPC10120 Certificate I in Construction qualification, and on the job experience which will help you transition into working roles in the industry.

All apprentices and trainees will be provided with wrap-around services including:

  • Jobs Ready training
  • employability Skills
  • financial Literacy
  • work site Fitness 
  • nutrition
  • mentoring

Future job opportunities

After completing the program, there are a range of HIA apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities offered across QLD.

Apprenticeships include a wide range of trades including:

  • carpentry
  • bricklaying
  • tiling
  • cabinet making
  • electrical
  • plumbing

which usually take round 3-4 years to complete.

Traineeships include a range of office based administrative positions and usually take around 2 years to complete.

Successful applicants will be placed with host employers within the residential building industry.

Support for hosts

Host employers participating in the program will attract wage support payments for eligible participants, with HIA mentoring and support throughout to ensure successful completion.
