2019 HIA Australia Renovation/Addition Project

Winner: Cassari Group, Western Australia

The complex renovation of a heritage home, completed by the Cassari Group from Western Australia, has taken out the 2019 HIA Australian Renovation/Additional Project award.

The winning company had its historically significant renovation put on show at the prestigious 2019 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards ceremony in Perth on 25 May, showcasing the work to hundreds of residential building professionals from across the country.

Returning this heritage home to its original grandeur was only part of the challenge for the winning project, along with extensive excavation for the inclusion of a new lower level and an unexpected change in design.

Taking guests on a journey through time, the front of the home pays homage to its history with stained glass features and octagonal rooms, while the kitchen and living areas beyond are markedly modern and truly of the twenty-first century.

Upstairs, the homeowners enjoy a private retreat comprising their master bedroom, his and hers dressing spaces, an ensuite and home office.

The HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards showcase the talents of the nation’s top builders and designers, with winners selected from state-based finalists in 22 separate categories.

The Renovation/Addition Project category criteria is for an extension or renovation involving structural building work of an existing individual house or other residential building. To upgrade a group of apartments, villas, townhouses, or to convert a non-residential building into a residential building.
