For the past half a century, Isuzu Trucks has been a much-loved brand for HIA members. While its range of trucks has always delivered superb reliability, the trucks have also been well-priced. That’s why Isuzu Trucks appeals to Australian builders, tradies and business owners – the trucks always deliver, day-in and day-out.
The flexibility, strength and cutting-edge technology of these trucks are hard to beat for HIA members. That’s why it’s Australia's number one truck brand. In fact, Isuzu has topped the truck sales charts in Australia for 33 years now.
Isuzu is now celebrating another milestone – the achievement of selling trucks in Australia for the past 50 years. Looking back, Isuzu Trucks has come a long way since it opened in 1972. This business was born out of a union between a Tokyo ship-building company and an energy producer in 1916.
‘Both companies were motivated by the clear vision to build quality vehicles,’ says Isuzu Australia Limited Director and Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Harbison. He’s proud of the business’s formula: delivering superior support, better ideas and the best service in the business.

Introduced to Australia by General Motors Holden in 1972, Isuzu trucks were initially marketed as Bedford by Isuzu, which appealed to an audience unfamiliar with the brand.
The Bedford-badged trucks developed buyer confidence and were the nucleus of the Isuzu brand.
Three years later, Isuzu’s proven performance and exceptional reliability saw the product gain widespread market acceptance and the Bedford name was dropped. This left the Isuzu brand to stand on its own in the Australian market.
Isuzu’s best-known 4WD truck, the NPS 75/45-155, was first introduced in 1992 and quickly became the best-selling 4×4 truck in Australia – a position it still holds today.
Now with a solid range of vehicles on offer, more than 170 models in all, HIA members can select the most effective option for their application.
It ranges from Isuzu Trucks’ light-duty, N Series, which comprises models such as the NNR, NPR and NQR, the medium-duty F Series range including the FRR and FSR as well as the FX and FY range of heavy-duty trucks including the popular GXD and FYJ models.
‘We’re extremely proud of our past achievements, the industry firsts and our mantle as a trusted road transport solutions provider for Australian businesses,’ says Andrew Harbison, who is always looking to the future.
‘Change is well and truly upon us, and we’re continually working to assemble the best and brightest in the business.’
