The Housing Industry Association (HIA) Awards were announced in front of an audience of industry leaders and home-building consumers.
St Georges Constructions won HIA Australian Townhouse / Villa of the Year for a home that includes clever use of full-length windows and skylights to reduce reliance on energy resources. Blurring the lines between interior and exterior are the clear sightlines, the abundance of natural light, green space, and eco-materials. The category is partnered by Holcim.
Walls Bros Designer Kitchens and Klemm Homes won HIA Australian Kitchen of the Year for a kitchen which combines classic sensibilities with contemporary execution. Judges remarked on the softness of the shapes and the elegant and restrained repetitious curves throughout. Also commenting on the attention to detail in the joinery, with each door and the curved island bench handcrafted. The category is partnered by Clipsal by Schneider Electric.
JW Constructions (Qld) won the highest award at the 2022 HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards being named the HIA-CSR Australian Home of the Year for a skillfully designed home with an understated street frontage which reveals open-plan living at its best.
Each room in the winning home flows effortlessly, intuitively connecting the indoors and out. The combination of board-formed concrete paired with warm wood-grained accents creates an inviting interior. Outside, natural greenery drapes elegantly from the expansive upper-level gardens, a verdant and tranquil contrast to the angular lines of the home.
At the heart of the home is the central courtyard and north-facing swimming pool. Submerged views can be enjoyed from the lower level rumpus area and the temperature-controlled wine cellar.
The main bedroom has a lush private garden and privacy screens cantilevered over the courtyard. The joinery throughout the home has been crafted so expertly, it’s seamless. The residence is fitted with the latest technology and automation system and a self-sustained battery generator.
The judges were unanimous that the attention to detail in this home is outstanding.
“The quality of finishes, building construction and workmanship is flawless,” they commented.
The home also won HIA Australian Custom Built Home, partnered by Beacon Lighting.
HIA’s Managing Director Graham Wolfe said the HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards recognise the best in Australia’s residential building industry.

And to the professional builders and business partners who are ahead of the game in customer service, design and innovation, building quality and business practices,” Mr Wolfe added.

Winners are selected from state-based finalists, with awards in 23 separate categories including Professional Builders, display home, apprentice, bathrooms and kitchens (see full list below).

New rules add thousands to the cost of a new home as Tasmania falls years behind on housing
From today, every new home built in Tasmania must meet the full Livable Housing Design requirements. The Housing Industry Association says this adds thousands of dollars to the cost of building a home, at a time when Tasmanians can least afford it.
Rules for managing the risk of falls have changed - are you up to date?
Changes to Western Australia's requirements for managing the risks of falls will commence on 1 October 2026, introducing new expectations for builders, contractors and workers undertaking tasks where there is a risk of falling.
Livable Housing Design: final stage now in force
As of today, 1 October 2026, all new building work in Tasmania, unless exempt, must comply with all requirements of Part H8 Livable Housing Design of NCC Volume Two.
ACT housing approvals slump puts 2030 target under pressure
“The ACT’s housing supply pipeline is weakening, with building approvals in the three months to August halving compared with a year earlier,” said HIA Executive Director ACT and Southern NSW, Geordan Murray.
