Mount Pleasant stunner takes out HIA Perth Home of the Year

Perth's best homes celebrated at the 2023 HIA TRUECORE® steel Perth Housing Awards and WA Kitchen & Bathroom Awards

A meticulously designed three level Mount Pleasant home by boutique custom builder Premier One Constructions has been awarded the 2023 HIA TRUECORE® steel Perth Home of the Year.

Announced at last night’s 2023 HIA TRUECORE® steel Perth Housing Awards and WA Kitchen & Bathroom Awards, the luxurious home boasts breathtaking river views from each of the three levels, a hidden 18-car garage, workshop and man cave, five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a rooftop indoor pool, and is described as an architectural gem.

HIA WA Executive Director Michael McGowan said the home that also took out the John Pietersen Award for Custom Built Home of the Year, displayed exceptional craftsmanship and faultless attention to detail that made it the standout entry amongst a very strong field.

“The home is not only exquisitely luxurious but has also been ingeniously designed to maximise the site, capture the lifestyle of the owners, and integrate innovative and environmentally sustainable features including 48 PV panels, double and triple glazing, and full control automation.

“Featuring a steel-clad exterior, oversized bronze-clad door, bespoke timber cabinetry, and unique stone benchtops, the home exudes natural tones and showcases a complementary blend of materials that provide a warm, yet bold and edgy touch.”

Mr McGowan said the number and variety of entrants in this year’s awards was testament to the amazing resilience, ingenuity, and craftsmanship of the home building industry in Perth.

“From luxury homes to small and affordable product, liveable homes and apartments, the innovation in design, material, and construction methods highlights an industry that continues to push forward, improve, and endeavour to deliver the very best for homeowners despite the challenging conditions,” he said.

Dale Alcock Projects and Department of Communities Housing Authority were awarded Affordable Housing of the Year for their joint project in Banksia Grove consisting of eight thoughtfully designed units.

“The judges were impressed with the Gold Liveable Housing Australia accredited homes which seamlessly combine style and functionality. The design has focussed on providing safe, communal accommodation with easy circulation through communal areas to facilitate social interaction, and the homes deliver a perfect balance between efficiency and affordability,” said Mr McGowan.

In an increasingly popular segment, the award for Small Lot Housing was won by Viva Developments for an impressive two-storey home cleverly designed to maximize space on a compact 226m2 lot in Alfred Cove.

“The judges commented on the distinctive brickwork façade combined with steel and texture cladding to give the home a boutique industrial feel. The blend of materials is maintained throughout to deliver a warm, stylish, and inviting interior which is finished with quality workmanship.”

Mr McGowan said the renovation and addition market had been particularly active in post covid years as many homeowners chose to upgrade the amenities and facilities in their existing homes.

“It is inspiring to see the craftsmanship of our Perth builders of all sizes on display in this category with many great entries across all cost levels,” he said.

Zorzi was awarded Renovation / Addition of the Year for an extensive renovation to a three-storey riverfront home in Dalkeith. The luxurious renovation has combined natural stone, concrete, glass and timber with outstanding workmanship and detailing throughout.

“The judges were impressed with the thoughtful connection of every finish to create a truly world class home in detail and quality,” said Mr McGowan.

Other outstanding winners included Humphrey Homes picking up the Peter Overman Award for Innovation in Housing of the Year for their Swanbourne home, Rural Building Company for Project Home of the Year in Gidgegannup, and Macri Exclusive Homes for winning the Golden Key Award for Perth Display Home of the Year.

The best kitchens and bathrooms were also celebrated in the HIA WA Kitchen and Bathroom Awards.

Mr McGowan said the post covid era has also elevated homeowner focus on the space, style and amenities within their kitchen and bathrooms, and an outstanding array of entries were included in the awards this year.

The 2023 HIA Cosentino WA Kitchen of the Year was awarded to Giorgi for an innovative and refined architecturally designed kitchen within a Halls Head home. Featuring Marazzi marble, walnut and concrete tones, the kitchen is stylish and functional with an exceptional level of detail and quality.

Kitchen Design of the Year was awarded to Western Cabinets, Renovated Kitchen of the Year to Clarke Custom Homes and Kitchen in a Display Home of the Year to Endeavour Homes.

The 2023 HIA Cosentino WA Bathroom of the Year was awarded to Lux Interiors for a Mount Claremont ensuite that combines modern elegance with traditional charm. Also claiming Renovated Bathroom of the Year, the centrepiece is a custom-designed walnut vanity and integrated mirror cabinetry featuring organic white benchtops with brass hardware to deliver a revitalised and stylish ensuite.

New Bathroom of the Year was won by VM Building and Kalco Cabinets, and Bathroom in a Display Home of the Year by Beaumonde Homes for their ‘Lake Como’ Display Home in Como.

Judged by leaders in the residential housing industry, the HIA Awards provide home builders, cabinet makers and designers with the opportunity to receive recognition for outstanding projects, as well as showcase their work to the broader industry.
