Koru Building Contractors wins HIA Cairns Home of the Year

Media release
The Housing Industry Association (HIA) announced the HIA Cairns Home of the Year for 2024, with local builder, Koru Building Contractors taking out the prestigious award at the 2024 HIA-Cosentino Cairns Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards presented on Friday 11 October at the Pullman Cairns.

Nestled on a quiet block the outstanding custom-built home is a masterful blend of contemporary design and serenity where the outside world fades away as you enter. Featuring bold elements such as curved concrete walls, a round pool, and high ceilings, enhancing the sense of openness.

Every aspect, from its innovative materials to its seamless indoor-outdoor connection, reflects a commitment to quality and workmanship. The judges were impressed by the attention to detail and the difficulty in the build.

The highly anticipated HIA-Cosentino Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards celebrate the pinnacle of design, innovation and craftsmanship in the far north residential construction industry.

“This year's awards were a celebration of the remarkable creativity and achievements of our HIA members who showcased an exceptional array of homes, kitchens and bathrooms that redefine modern living and raise the bar for architectural excellence,” remarked Peter Fry, HIA North Queensland’s Executive Director.

HIA Apprentice of the Year was awarded to Mattias Bomford-Wind from Smith & Sons Cairns. Highly regarded by his employer, Mattias’ maturity and skills across the building site and his strong knowledge of other trades, including younger apprentices under him, was a highlight to the judges.

Liam Gilligan Builders and Legacy Cabinets took home HIA Kitchen of the Year for a mesmerising kitchen that showcases the meticulous attention to detail and functional design that truly defines its elegance. Centered around a stunning island, the kitchen features high quality Oak cabinetry, white engineered benchtops and a captivating holographic Ace stone tile splashback.

HIA Bathroom of the Year was awarded to Tailored Homes Cairns and Pacific Kitchens for a calming and inviting bathroom that features a monochrome colour palette. Sleek black fixtures against floor-to-ceiling tiling creates a striking contrast that adds to the room's sophisticated atmosphere. A double vanity and freestanding bath further enhance the room's opulence whilst fixed glass panel windows and glass panel ceiling floods the space with natural light.

“The quality of submissions was unparalleled and highlights the exceptional talent and commitment of our local builders, designers and trades people who build extraordinary homes, kitchens and bathrooms and also run incredibly successful businesses," said Mr Fry.

The major award winners will now progress to the HIA-CSR North Queensland Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards in Townsville on 9th November to see who is crowned North Queensland's best.
