Mazzei Construction wins HIA-CSR Victorian Home of the Year

Media release
Mazzei Construction has won the 2024 HIA-CSR Victorian Home of the Year award for an outstanding custom built home in Red Hill.

The result was announced in front of an audience of 1,100 leading residential builders, designers and manufacturers at Crown Palladium on Friday 8 November.

“HIA congratulates Mazzei Construction on this outstanding achievement,” says Keith Ryan, HIA Victoria Executive Director.  “This is a very impressive home that was clearly built with care and attention to detail that is a credit to the Mazzei team.”

Nestled on a windswept, elevated site the project was guided by two core principles: a thoughtful response to the environment, and a pursuit of elegant simplicity.  The home takes full advantage of its fantastic location and excellent design.

But it also presented numerous technical challenges, which the builder has expertly overcome.  One clear example is the home's flying roof: overlapping solid concrete roofs that cantilever 2.5 metres out around the perimeter of the home and extend to 3.5 metres at the corners.  The builder carried out substantial prototyping in advance to ensure the finished product would be just right.

HIA’s judges also cited the home’s polished concrete floors, timber-lined ceilings and tiling as just some of the additional examples of the Mazzei team’s excellent craftsmanship.

A total of 74 awards were presented on the night, with other major winners including:

  • Professional Major Builder: SJD Homes
  • Professional Medium Builder/Renovator: Beachwood Homes
  • Professional Small Builder/Renovator: Coastyle Building Solutions
  • Apartment of the Year: Olsson Building

  • Project Home of the Year: GJ Gardner Homes Melbourne Inner North West
  • Renovation/Addition Project of the Year: Fortem Projects
  • Spec Home of the Year: Hadar Homes

“We’re extremely proud of the work being produced by HIA members and congratulate all the winners and finalists. We are also grateful to the partners who support this vitally important industry,” concluded Mr Ryan.
