HIA Guide to Livable Housing Provisions
The ABCB Standard provides a set of technical provisions to enable dwellings to better meet the needs of the community, including older Australians and people with mobility limitations.
This guide provides explanations and examples on how to comply with the ABCB Standard. It must not be used independently of the ABCB Standard but should be used in conjunction with it to provide further detail and explain how to practically implement the ABCB Standard’s provisions.
What parts of the house are affected by the ABCB Standard?
The requirements apply to:
- dwelling access
- the dwelling entrance
- internal doors and corridors
- a sanitary compartment
- a shower
- providing reinforcement of walls in
bathrooms and toilets for grab rail
installation.
