HIA Guide to Wet Area Waterproofing

The HIA Guide to wet area waterproofing (‘The Guide’) explains the changes that have been introduced through the NCC and the Australian Standard AS 3740 : 2021 waterproofing of domestic wet areas.
{{ tag.label }} {{ tag.label }} $vuetify.icons.faTimes

This guide covers the changes to waterproofing of wet areas made in National Construction Code (NCC) 2022, and what they mean for common solutions and compliance.

We provide a detailed breakdown of the changes as part of the NCC 2022 amendment and the new revised 2021 edition of AS 3740.

This informative guide also provides some practical examples of waterproofing wet areas and explains the use of compliant materials and methods. There are further details for the Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) outcomes available for the waterproofing of wet areas for Class 1 and Class 2 buildings.

The guide should not be used independently of the NCC or AS 3740 and rather should be read and used in conjunction with them to provide further detail and guidance on how to comply with the new requirements.

What parts of buildings are covered by these provisions?

NCC Volume One and Two provisions are applicable to all wet areas in 1 and 10 and Class 2, 3, and Class 5 - 9 buildings. However, this guide focuses on wet areas within Class 1 (houses and the like) and Class 2 sole-occupancy units (apartments).
