The changes to the National Construction Code (NCC) Volume Three (Plumbing Code of Australia) will take effect from September 2025. From that date any plumbing product containing lead content greater than 0.25% by weight will no longer be able to be used in any water supply installation.
Among the plumbing products that will be affected are taps, mixers, stainless-steel braided hoses, water heaters and water dispensers.
This resource outlines the ramifications of the change. Manufacturers and suppliers of plumbing products will be the groups most affected. They will now need to meet the new stipulations regarding use of lead in water fittings and fixtures.
Because of the large number of products that will be affected by the change, the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) will allow a three-year transition period to allow products to be brought into compliance.
Access this resource to find out how the new lead-free requirements will affect the running of your business.
