Tasmania has adopted a Code of Practice, effective from January 2022, that provides guidance on how to minimise the incidence of respiratory diseases caused by working with engineered stone.
The Code is intended to be used to assist in complying with the WHS Act and WHS Regulations. It includes recommendations for managing risks through the lifecycle of an engineered stone product, including fabrication, installation, maintenance, removal and disposal.
This resource outlines what workplace activities the Code of Practice applies to. These are activities that involve the use of engineered stone and other common building products that could result in exposure to respirable crystalline silica. It also specifies who has workplace health and safety responsibilities and duties when managing risks associated with working with these products.
In addition, the resource provides advice as to what other Codes of Practice have been published by WorkSafe Tasmania to help building practitioners manage workplace risk.
