Silica Awareness Workshop

Understand the risks associated with working with products that contain respirable crystalline silica (RCS) to protect your health, your workers’ health and your business.
{{ tag.label }} {{ tag.label }} $vuetify.icons.faTimes

Prolonged exposure to dust that contains respirable crystalline silica (RCS) can have serious repercussions for your health and that of your workers.

Exposure to RCS can cause silicosis, an irreversible lung disease that causes loss of lung function and can lead to lung cancer. Respirable crystalline silica can be generated when cutting, grinding or polishing building products such as engineered stone, bricks, tiles and concrete.

This resource contains five webinars to help building practitioners understand the risks involved and what controls can be put in place so that products containing silica can be worked with safety. The five webinars in the series are:

  • Webinar 1 – Silicosis workshop with Simon Croft (Executive Director, Building Policy HIA)
  • Webinar 2 – Video safety alert, SafeWork NSW
  • Webinar 3 – Silicosis workshop part 1, Andrew Orfanos (President Elect, Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists)
  • Webinar 4 –  Silicosis workshop part 2, Peter Creswell (Product Marketing Manager, Husqvarna Construction Products)
  • Webinar 5 – Personal protection equipment available, Travis Allen (Director, Allens Industrial Products)

Also provided are a links to a number of local health and safety authority websites so readers can find out more about silica and its harmful effects.
