HIA Australian Renovation / Addition Project

The brief for this project in Moonee Ponds was total restoration of the original building - a former nursing home built in 1886 - and alongside it the construction of a striking modern extension. Cast iron friezes and balustrades were accurately recreated, while original bluestone and decorative brickwork was painstakingly restored. The extension features vertical cladding with the look and feel of delicate grained timber, which draws the eye to the pressed-copper detail of the roof above. A basement level under the extension includes a sauna, steam room, gym and games room. It also features a car lift, turntable, and space for five cars. The restored and newly-built elements perfectly complement each other, with lush gardens, water features and a glazed link creating a soft separation between the two. From the 27,000 individually laid cobblestones to the full CBUS home automation system, every detail has been carefully considered and then executed with precision.
