HIA National Awards

Your entry is based on a written submission which addresses the judging criteria below. It is important to address each criteria. A good submission also provides examples (where applicable).

Eligibility

Applicants must be true start-ups, that is, brand-new businesses in the early stages of their development, not simply diversified or evolving businesses, and have been in business for at least 18 months but less than 5 years at the close of entry date.

Judging criteria

Each of the following criteria must be addressed as part of your written submission. Submissions can be uploaded online as word or pdf documents.

Strategy and development (word limit guide 500 words)
  • What are the goals of the business?
  • What is the vision and mission of the business, how are they communicated and what systems are in place to achieve objectives?
  • How does the business position itself, differentiate and develop its brand?

  • Outline back office management eg. everyday accounts, managing cash flow

Customer service (word limit guide 500 words)
  • Project management – eg. ensuring the jobs run smoothly, on time and on budget
  • WHS and safety administration – eg. managing paperwork and systems
  • Human Resource management – eg. staffing issues, staff training and recruitment

  • How do you monitor revenue and profit/loss?

  • Have any new systems or processes been implemented in the business in the last 12 months? Briefly outline why these were identified and how they were successfully integrated with business operations

  • How does the business/staff keep up to date with industry changes/trends/information?

Judging

Judging is carried out by a panel of judges comprising of industry representatives. Judging will take place at an HIA office or another designated office and will be based on the information provided by the entrant.

 

Additional entry requirements:

In addition to your written submission the online application will also ask you:

  • To upload two (2) high resolution images of your staff in landscape orientation
  • To upload a digital company logo
  • To provide details of number of years in operation
  • For the number of staff and contractors employed
  • Details of customer demographics

 

Presentation of winners

Winners will be announced at HIA Award nights from September to November 2024. Book your tickets with your local HIA office.
