Course overview

This training course provides building construction and maintenance workers with a basic awareness of asbestos, where it may be found, its health hazards, and the safety control measures that should be applied to prevent exposure of workers and others.

You will learn:

  • identification of asbestos or asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in the workplace
  • health effects of asbestos exposure
  • asbestos and the law
  • duty of care

On successful completion of this short course, you will be issued with a HIA Statement of Completion.

If you register for a virtual course, you will need to ensure you have access to an electronic device with video and audio capabilities to dial into the virtual session.

CPD points

This workshop has been approved for CPD (Continuing Professional Development) points as below:

Who would do this training?

This training covers many different fields within the construction industry, confined space workers, agriculture and asbestos removal personnel.

  • Construction industry workers including:
    • licensed and unlicensed tradespeople
    • painters
    • window installers
    • cabinet makers
    • fencers and labourers.
  • Workers who enter ceiling cavities including:
    • pest spray operators
    • insulation installers
    • air-conditioning installers
    • maintenance and repair workers
    • persons making recommendations on or improving solar capacity for a property.
  • Some agricultural industry workers, including some farmers and landscapers
  • Workers involved in the removal, maintenance or repair of any products or infrastructure likely to contain asbestos, eg brake pads, backyard ponds, swimming pools, sheds, letter boxes, insulation, lagging, cement, sheeting, roofing and flooring.
