What do I need before I start?

HIA will conduct a pre-enrolment review with you to make sure that this program is suitable for your career goals, current skills and experience. HIA will also ensure each participant has the following:

  • a competent level of English; reading, writing, interpersonal and communication skills
  • the ability to research, access and interpret complex documents
  • numeracy skills
  • computer and internet access
  • basic computer skills in spreadsheets, search engines and word processing

All participants will be required to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy assessment before enrolment.

How long will it take?

We provide an online learning platform with a virtual classroom learning environment program. The completion of this qualification can take up to 18 months. 

Virtual tutorials are delivered on a weekly basis, each tutorial is 2 hours in duration.  In addition to this you will need to allow time for your learning content, research and assessments at around 10-20 hours per week. Depending on the unit this additional time may vary.

What resources will I require?

During your training, access to resources is required and may include various current industry-specific codes and standards. If you do wish to purchase these materials, your regional HIA Training staff can provide you with a list of these resources and their indicative costs.

Where there are specific units that require access to onsite equipment, this will be arranged with you directly, and may involve face to face training at your nearest HIA office.

You will need to ensure you have access to a PC/laptop with internet.

Units

The following units of competency were selected in consultation with industry and accordance with the Training Packaging Rules of this qualification.

These units of competency will be delivered as standalone units and includes assessment of foundation skills that are embedded in the Training Package. Where foundation skills are not explicit in a unit competency, they will be included in assessment tasks.

To achieve this qualification, you must demonstrate competency in:

15 nationally recognised units of competency - 2 core units and 13 elective units
